(Las Vegas, NV)  –  A Henderson man will spend about a year in federal prison for firing a machine gun in his backyard.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old John Mackey pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a machine gun.  Henderson police arrested Mackey after he fired the automatic weapon outside his Anthem home on New Years Eve 2010.

Mackey told police he fired shots into the ground, but was “not stupid enough to shoot it into the air.”
