(Las Vegas, NV) — The woman credited with moving the University of Nevada from the WAC to the Mountain West Conference will retire at the end of the academic year.

Cary Groth said in a statement on Wednesday she’ll remain on the job through the coming academic year, while school officials initiate a national search for her replacement.

Groth was the athletic director at Northern Illinois before taking over at Nevada in 2004. She says she’s proud of gains made in recent years and thinks the timing is right for her to step down.

Nevada President Marc Johnson credited Groth with positioning the Wolf Pack to make the jump this year from the Western Athletic Conference to the Mountain West.

He says that during her tenure Nevada has enjoyed progress in both the competitive success of the athletic teams and the academic success of the student-athletes.
