(Las Vegas, NV) — A brand new school year is underway in the Clark County School District and Superintendent Dwight D. Jones weclomed students back to class in a unique way.

Superintendent Jones sported a green vest and cap and joined volunteers as a crossing guard at C.C. Ronnow Elementary School. Jones, along with the Clark County School District Police Department as well as the Las Vegas Metro Police Department gathered to bring attention to traffic safety around schools and make drivers aware of the increasing number of pedestrians.

Superintendent Dwight Jones spent a few minutes with KXNT and explained how we can all play a role in the safety of the students.

‘Don’t always expect kids are going to do the right thing. They’ll be excited on the first day of school and especially running home and so as drivers we have to pay special attention.”

Historically, more accidents happen after school than before due to parents having the ability to drop off kids in the morning hours.
