(Las Vegas, NV) — United States Attorney for Nevada Daniel Bogden, along with many other law enforcement, are in the midst of Operation Mountain Sweep. OMS is an eight-weel multistate marijuana operation targeting large scale, illegal marijuana grown on public lands.
The operation began July 1st and will run through the end of August in Nevada and six other western states. In the course of the operation to date, federal, state and local law enforcement have eradicated more than a half million marijuana plants from public lands, representing nearly 68% of all plants seized in the seven states during the period.
In Nevada, there have been 30 thousand plants from public lands since OMS began July 1st. And according to Bogden the cost is significant. “The 604 thousand plants seized to date from public lands at $2 thousand a pound per plant would come in at approximately 1.2 billion.”
According to DEA statistics, from 2010-2011, seizures of of marijuana plants from public lands in Nevada have tripled, and in 2012, seizures have already more than doubled that of 2011
