LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a sword-wielding, masked man who tried to rob a Dairy Queen in Las Vegas has been shot and killed by a store clerk.
Detectives say the suspect was shot twice inside the business and was lying just outside the doors when officers arrived at the restaurant in the Las Vegas Valley about 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
The suspect was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.
Metro Police Lt. Les Lane told the Las Vegas-Journal the sword was full-sized — at least three-feet long.
Homicide Det. Ray Steiber says the shooting appears to have been in self-defense but that detectives were investigating whether the gun used was properly registered.
He says only two employees and no customers were present at the time.
