(Las Vegas, NV) — A Metro patrolman is on paid admnistrative leave following an officer-involved shooting overnight.  The officer, stopping to get a drink at the 7-11 store at Jones and Lake Mead, was alerted to a robbery in progress by fleeing customers.

Upon entering the store, a suspect pointed a gun at the officer. The unidentified officer, who was not injured, shot the suspect, who was taken to UMC in critical condition. A second suspect was found hiding in the store and taken into custody.

This is the first officer-involved-shooting since Sheriff Doug Gillespie unveiled Metro’s new use of force policy last week. Assistant Deputy Chief Kathy O’Connor tells KXNT it appears the officer acted in accordance with the new guidelines.

The investigation is still underway.
