Flight Leaving Las Vegas Lands Safely After Losing Power In One Engine
MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a flight from Las Vegas to the Phoenix suburb of Mesa with federal immigration detainees aboard landed safely after losing power in one engine.
Federal Aviation Administration officials say the MD-83 touched down without incident around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
The Arizona Republic says the plane was operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and was bringing detainees bound for deportation or court appearances.
An ICE official says most of the 75 passengers aboard the plane were immigration detainees. They were being taken to ICE’s Arizona Removal Operations and Coordination Center at the Mesa airport.
No injuries were reported. FAA officials say the cause of the engine problem wasn’t immediately known.
