Reno Man Gets Life In Prison For Slaying Musician
Reno, NV (AP) — A jury has ruled a 22-year-old Reno man deserves life in prison without parole for the death of a popular local musician. Officials say the musician was shot trying to stop a purse-snatching.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports jurors decided on the sentence Thursday after finding Jacob Sanchez guilty of murder and several robbery-related charges in the May 8, 2011, death of Steven Gale.
Authorities say the shooting happened as the 27-year-old Gale and another friend were beating up Sanchez’s 13-year-old robbery partner during a “tug of war” over Gale’s friend’s purse.
Officials say Sanchez and his live-in girlfriend were part of a group that went on a four-hour robbery spree spanning Reno and Carson City.
Sanchez apologized during the Thursday court hearing and said he wanted to be a better man.
