(Henderson, NV)  —  One of downtown Henderson’s best-known landmarks is celebrating its 50th birthday.  Cake and champagne were served yesterday at the Eldorado Casino, which has become a popular gathering place for longtime residents.

The Eldorado  first opened its doors in 1962, and became the cornerstone of what is now Boyd Gaming.

The Water Street casino was also one of the first to hire women as card dealers, attracting working men from the nearby industrial plants.
