(Las Vegas CBS KXNT) Ninety-seven people from 28 countries took the oath of American citizenship at Las Vegas City Hall on Thursday morning. Judge Lloyd George presided over a ceremony that included a videotaped message from President Barack Obama. The new citizens stood and waved American Flags to the strains of Lee Greenwood’s ”God Bless the USA.”
Mayor Pro Tempore Stavros Anthony noted that in just a few days, on July 4th, the new citizens will celebrate the Declaration of Independence, the document that outlines the rights they’ve worked hard to enjoy in their new home. Anthony also urged them to vote, which is now their obligation, he said.
Two of the newly pledged took the podium to express gratitude and offer thoughts about their new status.
