LAS VEGAS, NV –Two lanes of southbound I-15 traffic at the California state line have re-opened after an accident closed the big freeway in both directions for hours this morning. Las Vegas-bound traffic from California has been able to pass through the area intermittently.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says drivers can still expect backups of between 5 to 7 miles as traffic begins to make its way through the cleanup site.
A tractor-trailer carrying a corrosive sewer-cleaning chemical overturned around 6:30am Friday. The accident occurred near Primm, near the state line. The truck was northbound and tipped into the median. Its estimated there were more than 4,000 gallons of the chemical in the truck’s tanks, most of which spilled on to the median and highway lanes.
