LAS VEGAS (AP) — The city of Henderson is continuing its legal fight to euthanize a dog that attacked a toddler.

Henderson officials want the Nevada Supreme Court to dismiss an appeal seeking to keep Onion the dog alive, arguing that the Lexus Project rescue group has no ownership rights to the animal.

Meanwhile, the Lexus Project argued Tuesday in a court filing that a lower court decision allowing for Onion’s death has no standing.

Onion’s owner legally gave the animal up after it killed her grandson April 27. She later said she wanted the Lexus Project to have Onion so it could send the animal to a Colorado sanctuary.

A settlement judge will attempt to broker a compromise with both sides this month.

Onion must be kept alive until the appeal is resolved.
