(LAS VEGAS CBS KNXT) The closely-watched, expensive and often acrimonious 4th District Congressional primary race among Republicans lived up to its billing as a nail-biter for much of election night before Danny Tarkanian opened up a lead of a thousand votes over rival Barbara Cegavske and declared victory.
With 100% of the vote counted, Tarkanian had won 32% of the vote, Cegavske 28% and Ken Wegner 21%.
Tarkanian told KXNT that he will need to address divisions within the state Republican party in his bid to win the seat in Congress in November. His opponent is Steve Horsford, the state Senate majority leader who is stepping away from Carson City in a bid for a job in Washington.
Elsewhere in the primary voting, John Oceguera won the Democratic primary in the Third District to face Republican Joe Heck this November.
Shelley Berkley and Dean Heller were will square off in November’s Nevada race for the U.S. Senate. Both dispatched of four fellow party rivals Tuesday to set up what will be one of the nation’s most contested races.
Dina Titus was an easy winner of the Democratic primary in the First Congressional District, the seat currently held by Berkley.
