RENO, Nev. (AP) — Officials in southwestern Utah have identified the pilots killed in the crash of a firefighting aircraft near the Utah-Nevada border.
The Iron County sheriff’s office says pilot Todd Neal Tompkins and co-pilot Ronnie Edwin Chambless, both of Boise, Idaho, died Sunday.
The aircraft was dropping retardant on a lightning-sparked fire that began Friday in eastern Nevada. The blaze later overwhelmed the crash site.
The pilots were flying a P-2V air tanker owned by Neptune Aviation Services of Missoula, Mont.
