Wranglers Are Out, Florida Wins Kelly Cup
Las Vegas – The Wranglers went into game five against the Florida Everblades needing a win to stay alive in the Kelly Cup Finals but they couldn’t get it done in the extra period as the Everblades skated to a 3-2 win over the Wranglers to secure the teams first ever Kelly Cup.
Everblades forward Justin Shugg tallied Florida’s first goal midway through the first, and with less than 90 seconds remaining in the period, defenseman Mike Ratchuk scored to make it a 2-0 deficit for Las Vegas. At the 9:26 mark of the second, the Wranglers cut Florida’s lead to one goal as center Ash Goldie scored on Everblades goaltender John Muse. The 2-1 score held through the rest of the period as Las Vegas outshot Florida 30-20.
Just 47 seconds into the third, Wranglers left wing Pete MacArthur tied the game up 2-2 on his sixth postseason goal. Both Muse and Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon held off shots through regulation, and overtime was forced for the second time this series. It took 4:54 minutes for Everblades forward Brandon MacLean to score, and with that game-winning goal.
The Wranglers finished the 2011-12 season with a 12-4-2 postseason record and 42-22-1-7 regular season record.
