Vegas K-9 Dies After Being Shot By Officer
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas police K-9 has died a little more than a week after he was shot by one officer while biting another officer.
Police say the 2-year-old Belgian Malinois named Marco was euthanized Tuesday after he lost the use of his muscles and was unable to move his legs following the May 14 shooting.
A private memorial is planned for the dog.
The shooting happened as authorities were responding to a call about a person with a knife who tried to enter at least one home west of downtown Las Vegas.
Officers say Marco was chasing the suspect when he encountered two other police officers. Police say the confused dog bit one officer, and was shot by another.
The officer who was bit was treated and returned to work.
