Feud Could Trigger Police, Fire Department Layoffs
(North Las Vegas, NV) — The unions that represent North Las Vegas’ police officers and firefighters are feuding with city officials. City Manager Timothy Hacker says the unions have rejected calls for a pay freeze over the next two years. Hacker warns there will be “massive layoffs,” and accuses the unions of “serving their own self interest first and their community second.” Union leaders claim they never rejected anything in talks with Hacker on Monday. North Las Vegas is facing a $33-million shortfall and must balance its budget by the end of June.
