Resident Critically Injured In Fire At Assisted Living Complex

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a woman is in critical condition with burns on about 80 percent of her body after a fire broke out overnight at a North Las Vegas senior citizens complex.

Crews responded about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to the Salvation Army Silvercrest Apartments and found one unit filled with smoke and the resident suffering severe burns. She was taken to University Medical Center.

Firefighters used large fans to move smoke out of the apartment and salvage other units. The main fire was put out by sprinklers.

No firefighters and no other residents were hurt in the fire.

Officials are still investigating.

This woman is my mother, Her name is Teresa. This is a horrifying incident that should have never happened. She is somehow beating the odds so far. Our seniors need help. My mom is blind and every agency that is suppose to help just took reports and were never heard from again. Someone needs to be a voice for our elderly, and these agencies need to do their jobs and not just fill out paperwork, be told blatently that someone CANNOT live alone., and just drop the ball. I am speechless and the reality of our system is devastating.
