Las Vegas – The Wranglers dropped game one of the ECHL Western Conference Finals on Thursday night losing to the Alaska Aces 2-1. Both Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon and Aces goaltender Gerald Coleman held the first period scoreless as Alaska outshot Las Vegas 17-6 through the first 20 minutes. Midway through the second, at the 9:07 mark, Aces center Ryan Cruthers tallied the first goal of the night on a power play, giving Alaska the 1-0 lead. The Wranglers tied it up 1-1 on a goal from forward Scott Campbell in the last three minutes of the period, edging Alaska 14-10 in shots. The game remained tied through almost 16 minutes of the third period until Cruthers scored his second goal of the night to give the Aces a 2-1 lead with only 3:31 left in regulation. Unable to equalize the game, the Wranglers recorded the 2-1 loss to the Aces in the opening game of the best-of-seven series. Alaska now leads the series 1-0. The same two teams face off at Orleans Arena Friday night at 7:05 p.m. before heading to Anchorage for four road games. If necessary, the Wranglers will return home on Wednesday, May 9, for game 7 of the series.
