(LAS VEGAS CBS KXNT) The Lied Discovery Children’s Museum has no shortage of young visitors, but the new location will accommodate many more, with about 20 thousand additional square feet at a prestigious address in the Smith Center complex.  On Tuesday, the new facility came a step closer to completion, receiving a one million dollar donation from the Sands Foundation.

Museum president Michael Mathis accepted the check, while a chorus of kids echoed his thank you.  The museum’s funding gap has been reduced to $2.5 million, Mathis said.  Museum board members who were present at the event tossed out a friendly challenge to the community, inviting other large companies to make donations.

The new building was constructed with a $40 million donation from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and the Smith Center. The target grand opening date is November 17, 2012.
