Coroner Investigating Little Leaguer Death
LAS VEGAS (AP) — It could take several weeks before authorities in Las Vegas know why a 9-year-old Little League player collapsed and died while preparing for a game at a baseball park.
An aide to Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy said Friday that blood toxicology results are pending for Spencer Melvin.
But officials say the death appears to have been from natural causes.
Vegas Valley Baseball officials told the Las Vegas Sun the boy was preparing for a Tuesday game at Rainbow Family Park field when his heart stopped.
Melvin’s father and brother, as well as others at the field, couldn’t revive him.
Little League teams in the area are holding events and selling items to raise money for Melvin’s family, and a memorial was placed at the park where Melvin died.
