LAS VEGAS (AP) — Family members say former UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian’s condition continues to improve after he suffered a mild heart attack.
Son Danny Tarkanian said Sunday that his 81-year-old father is “doing a lot better,” and has been moved from the intensive care unit to a regular room at Mountainview Hospital in Las Vegas.
He says his father’s heart attack Tuesday involved a small artery, and it was dealt with immediately.
But he says the ex-coach’s lungs had been a bigger concern, and it has since been determined he was having trouble breathing because of bronchitis.
He says the problem is under control, and his father could return home in another day or two.
Tarkanian coached the Runnin’ Rebels from 1973 through 1992, winning the school’s first national championship in 1990.
