LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas are identifying a 31-year-old man critically hurt when he jumped from an ambulance and was hit by a pickup truck towing a trailer.

Las Vegas police say Steven Datu ran into a moving GMC Sierra pickup and fell beneath the wheels of the trailer about 12:35 p.m. Wednesday on Buffalo Drive near Peace Way. That’s several miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

A Clark County fire spokesman says the American Medical Response ambulance was heading to a hospital with a patient from a home about a mile from the crash scene.

An AMR spokeswoman says the ambulance wasn’t using lights and siren, and the driver pulled to the side of the road before the man jumped out the back doors.
