NV Unemployment Down Slightly
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada’s unemployment rate fell to 12.7 percent in January, down from 13 percent in December and 13.8 percent last January.
Northern Nevada shed jobs while southern Nevada gained. The Carson City area posted the highest jobless rate at 13.5 percent, while Reno had 13 percent unemployment and Las Vegas’ rate is 13.1 percent.
State economists say employers added a seasonally adjusted 1,800 payroll jobs, with the private sector gaining and the public sector losing positions.
Nevada’s employment department says Monday that 174,700 people in the state are jobless, which is down 16,300 from last January but relatively flat compared with December 2011.
The state’s jobless rate is still 4.4 percentage points above the national rate of 8.3 percent.
