LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge in Las Vegas is sending a teenager who claims to hear demons to trial on murder charges in the separate slayings of his young cousin and his jail cellmate.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that prosecutors haven’t said if they will seek the death penalty against 19-year-old Carl Guilford. Arraignment is set March 19.

His mother tells police her son is bipolar and talks about angels, demons and “sacrifices.”

Guilford told police he heard voices after he was accused of suffocating his 6-year-old cousin last May

In July, Guilford was accused of beating and stabbing Francesco Sanfilippo to death with a pencil in their shared Clark County jail cell.

Doctors at a state mental facility in Sparks have ruled Guilford competent for trial if he is medicated.
