LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada Power says over 14,000 customers are without power. Gusty dry winds are sweeping through the Las Vegas area, causing power outages and some airport delays but no significant reports of damage.
The National Weather Service says the highest gusts so far reached 60 mph at McCarran International Airport just off the Las Vegas Strip at about 2 p.m. Airport spokeswoman Candice Seeley says some arrivals and departures have been delayed.
Officials were reporting several thousand homes and businesses without power. Police and fire officials haven’t reported any wind damage.
The weather service says temperatures are expected to drop from the 70s to the mid-40s as a cold front pushes through southern Nevada. Forecaster Faith Borden in Las Vegas says winds could reach 70 mph.
