PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — A Peoria police sergeant has been demoted and suspended for two weeks without pay for posting President Barack Obama’s apparently bullet-riddled image on his Facebook page.

Police officials announced Tuesday that Pat Shearer will be demoted to the rank of officer, which means a reduction in pay.

Shearer has 10 days to appeal the decision. The 25-year veteran had been reassigned to administrative duties pending the investigation’s outcome.

The photo on Shearer’s Facebook profile showed seven Peoria-area high school students, some holding guns and one holding what appeared to be a shot-up Obama T-shirt. The image was removed soon after it was posted.

Peoria Police Chief Roy Minter Jr. says the department expects its employees to exercise sound judgment and not bring discredit to the city and the police department.
