Nevada Political Icon Bill Raggio Passes Away At 85

(Las Vegas, NV) – Former Nevada Senator Bill Raggio has passed away at age 85 from a respiratory illness. The Republican from Reno retired in late 2010 after being the longest serving member of the state senate in history.

Raggio served 12 special and 19 regular sessions, the longest Senate service in Nevada history. He served as the District Attorney for Washoe County from 1958-1970.

Raggio was Senate Minority Floor Leader in 1977-1979, 1983–1986, 1991, and 2009. He was Senate Majority Floor Leader in 1987-1989 and 1993-2007.
