(near St. George, UT) What started out as an attempted traffic stop Monday morning in the St. George, Utah suburb of La Verkin turned into a police chase that’s had Interstate 15 closed for hours in both directions around the tiny town of Toquerville. The Utah Highway Patrol has detours along state roads, but there are traffic delays in both directions. Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Todd Johnson tells KXNT that the reason for the original traffic stop is not yet clear. The car was finally stopped around the noon hour after driving over law enforcement spike strips, according to Cpl. Johnson, who says that’s when the stand-off began. There are ongoing neogtiations with the driver of the vehicle who may have one or two young children along as passengeers.
