PROVO, UTAH (CBS Las Vegas) — Bill Cosby would not be proud of this “Rudy.”
A woman arrested by Provo police for stealing almost $600 in merchandise from an area JC Penney told authorities that she was Rudy Huxtable, a character from the popular sitcom “The Cosby Show.”
Sgt. Matt Suifanua of the Provo Police Department told CBS Las Vegas that the suspect, Leah Efay Davis, implied that she was the character, and not Keshia Knight Pulliam, the actress who portrayed her.
“When she was asked her name, she said she was Rudy Huxtable, from ‘The Cosby Show,’” Suifanua said.
In addition to her claimed identity, Davis reportedly went on to tell police that she owned JC Penney, and was simply completing her Christmas shopping.
“Store security was watching her on camera putting multiple items into a bag that she had. She was then seen by security walking past multiple purchase points and leaving to go into the main mall,” Suifanua said. “We found $591.26 worth of stolen items.”
Davisis presently in the Utah County Jail, and has been charged with two crimes – felony retail theft and criminal trespass.
“She was not supposed to be at the mall, due to a prior crime,” Sgt. Suifanua explained, adding that the theft charge was elevated to a felony due also to previous altercations with the law.
