RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a man died Christmas night after scuffling with police who arrived on the scene in response to an emergency call regarding threatening behavior in a home.
Police say the man resisted arrest, leading to a “lengthy struggle.” Police detained the man, who was not identified, and in checking him for injuries after the incident realized that he wasn’t breathing.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/t5997s) that officers and firefighters tried to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were responding to a report of a man armed with a fork who had battered someone and threatened others in a home.
Three officers involved in the incident have been placed on routine, paid administrative leave, pending a sheriff’s office investigation, the newspaper reports.
