Nye County Brothel Owner ‘Joe’ Richards Sells Biz
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nye County brothel owner Maynard “Joe” Richards has quietly sold his bordellos after a controversial career spanning nearly four decades.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the 78-year-old Richards still owns a strip club in Pahrump and says he’s writing a book.
Richards recently sold his Cherry Patch 2 property, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, to brothel mogul Dennis Hof.
Hoff plans to reopen the business with an outer-space theme.
Richards sold his other two Nye County brothels to Hof in 2010.
Richards pleaded guilty in March 2009 to federal wire fraud for paying a Nye County commissioner $5,000 to rewrite an ordinance that would help his business.
Prostitution is legal in rural Nevada counties, but is prohibited in the state’s population centers of Clark and Washoe counties.
