LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas officials say city offices are going to be closed from the Friday before Christmas until the Tuesday after New Year’s, both as a cost-cutting measure and in recognition of a traditionally slow business period between the holidays.
City spokeswoman Diana Paul says essential public safety functions including police and fire, city marshals, animal control, parking enforcement, jail and sewage plant operations will continue.
City parks and Las Vegas Municipal Court will be open.
Administrators say the city website, http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov, has a list of online services available 24 hours a day.
From Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, most daytime telephone calls to city departments will be routed to a phone bank where callers will be helped.
Officials think the closure could save the city about $40,000 in utility costs.
