Police Arrest More Than 20 Occupy Las Vegas Protesters
LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas/AP) — Police have arrested 21 Occupy Las Vegas protesters who were sitting down in the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard as part of a demonstration marking the two-month anniversary of the protest movement in New York City.
Las Vegas police Lt. Jason Letkiewicz said protests were peaceful and there were no injuries as officers put the arrestees on a police bus about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police had been diverting traffic around the demonstrators, who were chanting, “We are the 99 percent.”
The protesters will be taken to the Cashman Center convention facility and issued summonses on misdemeanor charges of pedestrian in a roadway. Police say they will not be taken to jail.
The arrests are a first among Las Vegas “Occupy” demonstrations.
These arrests come as 100 people were detained in New York during Occupy Wall Street protests.
