RENO, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas wedding chapels hit the jackpot Friday as thousands of couples rushed to tie the knot on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011.
Fred Botero of Macon, Ga., says he went to great lengths to ensure he could get married at precisely 11 a.m. Friday at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel.
He put down a deposit of $1,111.11 to reserve the time nearly a year in advance.
Stephanie Joseph of the Clark County Marriage Bureau says roughly 1,700 licenses have been issued so far for 11-11-11 weddings, second only to the 2,600 licenses issued for 7-7-07 weddings.
Charlotte Richards of A Little White Wedding Chapel says nearly half of her record 400-plus weddings Friday will involve veterans who wanted to get hitched on Veterans Day.
