LAS VEGAS (AP) — Occupy Las Vegas protesters waved signs and urged passing motorists to honk in support of a peaceful demonstration in front of the Las Vegas headquarters of Nevada’s main electric utility.
Organizer Sebring Frehner said several dozen protesters took part in the Wednesday evening demonstration at the NV Energy office west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Police and a company spokeswoman called the event peaceful.
The protesters aimed to highlight opposition to an electricity rate hike pending before the Nevada Public Utilities Commission.
Occupy Las Vegas participants have been camping with a permit since Oct. 21 on a vacant lot near the Thomas & Mack Center arena at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The demonstration is modeled after a Wall Street encampment blaming corporate interests for the nation’s economic pain.
