HENDERSON (CBS Las Vegas) – At approximately 10:38 a.m. Sunday morning,  crews from the Henderson Fire Department responded to a reported fire on High View at the Martinique Bay Apartments, near the intersection of Green Valley Parkway and Sunset.  The fire started from a cooking accident which spread quickly throughout the apartment.

The first Fire Department unit arrived in approximately 6 minutes to find heavy smoke and flame from the upstairs unit, with evidence that the fire had spread to the attic.  Fire crews were able to confine the fire to the apartment of origin.  However,
there was extensive damage to that apartment.  The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.  A second alarm was called and the Clark County Fire Department responded to assist.  Representatives from NV Energy, Southwest Gas, and the Henderson Building Department also responded.  There were no injuries to civilians.  One firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital for what appeared to be heat-related issues.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.  A total of 23 people were displaced from the apartment building.  Most of them should be able to return home some time tomorrow.  The Red Cross and property managers assisted with temporary shelter and other immediate needs of the evacuees.

Total damage from the fire is estimated at $80,000.
