(El Segundo, CA)  —  Balking at higher rates demanded by News Corp. for carrying Fox cable channels, the satellite television service DirecTV is set to dump more than a
half dozen channels Tuesday.  That’s when the two companies’ current contract
expires.  DirecTV says Fox wants a 40 percent increase.  Fox Networks executives
say that’s not true.  They also say DirecTV rejected an offer to keep carrying
Fox channels at the old rates while a new deal is hammered out.  In any case, El
Segundo, California-based DirecTV seems set to pull the plug on FX, Fox Regional
Sports Networks, SPEED, the National Geographic Channel, Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer
Plus, Fox Deportes, FUEL TV and the Fox Movie Channel.

A lot of people will not be happy if FX and National Geographic are removed from DirecTV’s lineup, especially since the show Sons of Anarchy is a show that so many people love. Also, there are many sports networks that would be taken down as well. I remember last year when DISH Network was in contract negotiations with FOX and the channels were taken down. I remember how much I could relate to the people calling in, since I love the show, I understood how frustrating it was not to be able to see the show. Thankfully, DISH was able to make an agreement so that DISH will carry the channels for into the future! I really hope everything works out for DirecTV!
