LAS VEGAS (AP) — A panel of Clark County prosecutors says it will seek the death penalty for a 19-year-old accused of kidnapping, raping, stabbing and burning the body of a Las Vegas high school sophomore.
Clark County District Attorney David Roger on Thursday cited the brutality of the alleged murder of 15-year-old Alyssa Otremba in the decision to seek capital punishment for Javier Righetti.
The charred body of the Arbor View High School sophomore was found Sept. 3 not far from her northwest Las Vegas home.
Her mother had reported her missing the evening before after Otremba text-messaged that she was walking home.
The Clark County coroner reports that Otremba’s body had more than 40 stab wounds.
Police say Righetti admitted to the killing and another rape and robbery.
