LAS VEGAS (AP) — Transportation crews are working through the weekend in hopes of finishing 10 days early on a major I-15 repaving project that’s disrupted Las Vegas traffic.
Officials were set to start a marathon road construction session on Friday a minute before midnight, and work around the clock until Monday. Portions of the interstate will be reduced to one lane at certain hours during the construction session.
The $6 million I-15 resurfacing project began Sept. 11, and stretches from Tropicana Avenue to the Spaghetti Bowl interchange.
Workers will be laying down the final stretches of crumb rubber asphalt over the weekend. State transportation officials say the crumb rubber is environmentally friendly because it’s made from recycled tires, and also allows for a smoother drive with less road noise.
