Southwest Officer-Involved Shooting

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a gunman is dead and a police officer is wounded after a shootout at a 24-hour Walmart store in Las Vegas.

Police Officer Bill Cassell tells The Associated Press the man pulled a gun and opened fire as officers tried to arrest him and a woman in a credit or debit card fraud investigation about 4:30 a.m. at the Walmart on Rainbow Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road.

Cassell says an officer was wounded in the arm and shot in his ballistic vest. He’s hospitalized but is expected to recover.

The gunman was shot several times, and died at a hospital.

No one else was injured.

The woman is in custody, and detectives are questioning about 25 employees and shoppers who were in the store at the time.
