LAS VEGAS (AP) — Firefighters expect containment during the weekend of a lightning-sparked wildfire that grew Friday to almost 19 square miles in eastern Nevada.
A Bureau of Land Management spokesman says crews reached 75 percent containment Friday and expected containment by nightfall Saturday of the Vigo Fire burning in and around the remote Meadow Valley Wilderness area some 20 miles south of the town of Caliente
In the vast Desert National Wildlife Refuge north of Las Vegas, meanwhile, officials are allowing a smaller 50-acre blaze to burn. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Dan Balduini says no people, structures, roads or infrastructure are at risk from the blaze. He says the blaze is actually helping manage fuel load in the area and is “really beneficial.”
