GEORGE NOORY IN LAS VEGAS: Get tickets now -- be there June 9!

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 24-year-old UNLV graduate is taking home top honors in a national competition for making college more affordable.

Devin Valencia won a contest sponsored by MTV and the College Board with her idea for a Facebook application that guides students in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The form is essential for securing many grants and scholarships.

The Las Vegas Sun reports she takes home $10,000, plus a $100,000 budget for her project that’s set launch in November. Former President Bill Clinton presented her with the award.

The planned Facebook app defines the terms on the FAFSA form and links users to scholarship applications based their profile information.

Valencia is a substitute teacher and says she is using the prize money to pay off her student loans.
