ACORN Fined in Voter Registration Scheme
(Las Vegas, NV) — A judge has fined the now-defunct community group ACORN $5000 for a 2008 voter registration scheme. The corporation pleaded guilty to one count of felony compensation for registration of voters. Prosecutors claim ACORN paid cash to encourage workers to sign up new voters in Las Vegas. Two co-defendants have taken plea deals in the case. The national organization closed last year, so it may be hard for the state to collect the fine.
