LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a Las Vegas teenager accused of killing his nephew stabbed his cellmate to death with a pencil at the Clark County Detention Center.
Las Vegas police spokesman Bill Cassell says Friday that 18-year-old Carl Guilford will face a murder charge in connection with the latest killing.
Jail officials discovered the injured inmate while conducting a routine bed check around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Officials tried to treat his injuries but later pronounced him dead.
Police say Guilford stabbed the cellmate with a pencil during a fight.
The coroner’s office has not identified the dead inmate.
Cassell says this is the first time an inmate at the jail has been killed since 1979.
Guilford was arrested in May on charges he suffocated his 6-year-old nephew with a blanket.
