UNLV Student Arrested in Hacking Scheme
(Las Vegas, NV) — A UNLV student is among more than a dozen people arrested for allegedly hacking into the websites of several U.S. firms. The FBI says 20-year-old Mercedes Renee Haefer was part of the group Anonymous, which is accused of attacking
sites owned by Visa, Mastercard and PayPal. Haefer, a journalism student at the Vegas campus, is free on her own recognizance but had to surrender her laptop.
Her attorney says Haefer will plead not guilty to federal charges of conspiracy and intentional damage to a protected computer.
