LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a 40-year-old French tourist has died after he was critically injured in a fall from a pedestrian escalator on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Clark County coroner says Francois Desaleonterras (fran-SWAH’ de-SALLY-on-TER’-as) of Versailles (ver-SIGH’) died Monday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. He was injured three days earlier.
A ruling on a cause of death is expected in several weeks, after medical examiners receive toxicology test results.
Las Vegas police say Desaleonterras suffered severe head injuries when he fell while trying to stand on an escalator railing about 4:30 a.m. Friday near casino resorts at Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Police said at the time that it appeared Desaleonterras was intoxicated when he fell about 30 feet to the sidewalk below.
