LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Las Vegas police officer who was acquitted of felony charges in an on-duty crash that killed the man he was chasing and injured another motorist says he wants his police job back.
Aron Carpenter was a police officer for 4½ years before he was dismissed following the May 2010 crash.
He told reporters after the verdict Tuesday in Clark County District Court that he wants to work again as an officer in Las Vegas or elsewhere.
Prosecutors alleged the 30-year-old Carpenter disobeyed a supervisor’s orders to end the chase and deliberately crashed his patrol cruiser into a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Ivan Carrillo (kah-REE’-o).
Carrillo was suspected of driving under the influence. He died in the crash.
Carpenter testified that Carrillo drove into the path of the police car.
