Possible Gang Shooting Leaves Seven Injured At Funeral
LAS VEGAS (CBS) – A shooting outside the downtown Palm Mortuary injures seven and leaves mourners shaken.
The shooting happened just before 7p.m. near Main Street and Washington Avenue. According to the Palm Mortuary website, a funeral was being held for Andres Elena, the victim of a fatal stabbing on the Las Vegas Strip last week.
Eyewitnesses tell 8newsnow that a Hispanic male attended the service and was seen mingling with others just before pulling out a gun and opening fire on the crowd.
Seven people, including one juvenile, sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Metro is investigating the possibility the shooting is gang-related.
The family of Andres Elena believes this funeral was targeted by associates of the accused stabber. His name is Victor Quijano, and he is currently in police custody for the fatal stabbing.
Witnesses say the suspect fled the scene in a white 1970s Chevy El Camino with a unique design on the door that featured a purple background and a brown number 7 in the foreground. The car also had chrome rims. It was last seen traveling southbound on Main.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
