Hellmuth Still Up For Mixed-Game Title At WSOP
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The World Series of Poker’s most frequent winner is making a run at his 12th championship bracelet in a $50,000 buy-in tournament widely regarded as the best test of a card player’s all-around skill.
Phil Hellmuth sat at fifth in chips on Wednesday with nine players left at the start of a session to determine the winner of the Poker Players Championship, a mixed-game tournament designed to attract only poker’s richest and best.
The winner gets $1.7 million just hours before the series’ most prestigious tournament begins, the $10,000 buy-in no-limit Texas Hold ’em main event.
Hellmuth is also looking to outlast Ben Lamb in hopes of getting closer to series Player of the Year honors.
After one elimination, eight players will finish the tournament playing no-limit Texas Hold ’em.
